How to reduce photo size for UPSC
Updated
UPSC photo and signature requirements
| Item | File size | Format | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Photograph | 20–300 KB | JPG | At least 350 px wide, recent and clear |
| Signature | 20–300 KB | JPG | Clear signature on white paper |
These follow the commonly published UPSC online application rules. Check the latest notification on upsconline.gov.in before submitting.
Step by step
- Take a clear, well-lit photo against a plain background, or scan a printed one.
- Open the MediaShift UPSC tool and select Photo.
- Drop the photo; MediaShift compresses it to a JPG within 20–300 KB.
- Repeat with Signature, then save both files.
Tips for a sharp result
- Start from the original camera photo, not a WhatsApp-forwarded copy, which is already heavily compressed.
- Crop extra background before compressing so more detail goes to your face.
- If a portal says the file is too small, use a larger original photo.
